Transforming Rural Livelihoods Through Rabbit Farming – The Nilesh Gosavi Story
Nilesh Gosavi, an engineer from Mumbai, left his corporate job to pursue his passion for sustainable farming. He started Abungu Rabbit Farm in March 2022 and now mentors over 20 rabbit farms across Maharashtra.
His work has empowered rural communities and promoted eco-friendly practices, earning him the prestigious Krushiratna Award.

No, not at all. At Abungu Rabbit House, we raise our rabbits with care and respect. They live in clean, comfortable spaces, eat healthy food, and are checked by vets regularly. We never hurt or mistreat them.
Not if the cages are designed well. Our rabbits have enough space to move, rest, and play. We keep their homes clean, safe from bad weather, and free from stress. We even give them toys and quiet time.
Some people have seen videos of big factory farms in other countries. But Abungu is a small, family-run farm. We focus on care, cleanliness, and doing things the right way. You’re welcome to visit and see for yourself.
Our rabbits get a healthy diet, including:
- Fresh green leaves and vegetables
- Hay (for good digestion)
- Clean drinking water
- Special rabbit pellets
We never use harmful chemicals or growth boosters.
Yes. Rabbit meat is allowed and regulated by the Indian government. It is high in protein, low in fat, and considered one of the cleanest meats to eat.
No. We follow proper breeding schedules. Mother rabbits get enough time to rest and recover. Every baby is raised with love and care.
We either keep them as pets or follow humane processing methods approved by vets. Nothing is wasted, and every rabbit is treated with respect.
